Common Questions
The new Stay Asleep CBN gummies are made with a CBN isolate. CBN is a cannabinoid, not unlike CBD, but this product does not contain CBD. Nor does it contain melatonin (which is paired with CBD in our original Sleep gummies). Our new Stay Asleep CBN gummies are designed to support quality sleep and are formulated with 20mg of CBN, an amount shown to be an efficacious dose per current research.* And we love that like all gummy supplements, they’re easy to take, easy to transport, and easy to work into a wellness routine. Our new Stay Asleep CBN Gummies are for Wee-Hour Wakers, people who can fall asleep effortlessly but inevitably find themselves awake in the middle of the night after only a few hours of sleep. They use CBN, cannabinol, in an isolate form. They can help you stay asleep, support a good night’s sleep, and support quality sleep. They are designed to help decrease nighttime awakenings and reduce the number of times you wake up at night.*
Our bestselling Sleep Gummies help those who need a gentle nudge to initiate sleep because of traveling and changing time zones, or anyone simply trying to establish a consistent sleep cycle. They’re made with Melatonin and CBD from full-spectrum hemp extract and help you maintain regular sleep cycles to get better and more sound sleep.* Learn more by reading out article CBD vs CBN, Decoding the Differences.
CBN interacts with the endocannabinoid system (ECS), but possibly in different ways than other cannabinoids. The primary receptor sites of the ECS are called CB1 and CB2. As a general rule, CB1 receptors are primarily concentrated in our central nervous system and spinal cord, and CB2 receptors are mostly located in our peripheral tissues and immune cells. CBN has been shown to have a binding affinity to CB1 receptors, which play an important role in sleep.
Much like how CBD has specific benefits, CBN has been shown to provide a range of unique benefits. CBN has a reputation for helping with sleep, and research using animal models and recent studies working with human participants has supported this reputation. In a study by Kaufmann (2021), administration of CBN over the course of 7 days resulted in improvements in self-reported sleep outcomes. In another study (Bonn-Miller et al., 2024), administration of CBN in isolation improved sleep outcomes, particularly through reducing sleep disturbance throughout the night and the number of nighttime awakenings. Importantly, this study also included doses of CBN (20 mg) paired with differing doses of CBD (10, 20, and 100 mg). Twenty milligrams of CBN alone reduced nighttime awakening and sleep disturbance compared to placebo. The addition of varying doses of CBD did not improve sleep quality. Based on this study, it appears that when pairing CBN and CBD together, they are less helpful for sleep than when either cannabinoid is used in isolation.
The short answer to both questions is the same as it is for CBD, “It depends.” It depends on many factors such as the starting point of your body’s systems, as well as the concentration of CBN you’re using. The bottom line is that CBN may affect everyone a little differently and work gradually over time. Dietary supplements like Charlotte’s Web™ hemp extract products are crafted to work with your body naturally. Results come by way of steady use, which will make beneficial changes more sustainable.
